Over 7,600 farmers in cocoa growing communities has been trained on the correct method of planting, prunning and pesticide application of cocoa farms at Bogoso and it environs in the western region.

Tha training is to equip cocoa farmers with the necessary skills to implore correct agricultural practices to ensure high cocoa produce in the country.

Mr. Richard Suwli, LBC head of UNICOM Ghana limited gave the hint at a durbar to announce farmers premium at Bogoso.

The premium, Ghc 900,000 to the farmers is to applaud them for supplying sustainable cocoa seeds to UNICOM, and to help improve the livelihood of the farmers.

Dubbed "Cocoa sustainability, a key to improving farmers productivity" also aim at imparting key knowledge on how to exercise good cultural practices to increase productivity.

Unicom commodities Ghana limited empowers farmers through a cooperative cocoa buying model to help improve their livelihood.

According to Mr. Suwli, supply of agriculture inputs on credit - agro - chemicals, fertilizers and farm tools have been supplied to over 2,000 farmers to complement government effort in its free input distribution.

He said that "in collaboration with Ghana cocobod, 350,000 seedlings have been raised and distributed to farmers to enable them improve on their agriculture productivity".

Adding that, with the help of ministry of education, UNICOM have installed two village resource centres, containers fitted with internet access to train farmers wards on ICT to improve on.

He was optimistic to continue work together to improve the livelihood of Ghanaian cocoa farmers.

Gabriel Adjargo, district director of Agric Bogoso, said cocoa is a major contributor to country's which needs attention to good practice for sustainability.

He said Ghana is the largest producer of cocoa and is the best from natural which Ghana derived a lot of income from it.

Mr. Gabriel Adjargo in interview with Modern Ghana said, about 60% of women are into farming at the area which according to have improved their lives.

However, he urged parents to desist from child labor which is rampant at the area, and send their wards to school.

He pleaded with government to implement policies to help improve productivity and urged the youth to engage farming to make living.
