Parenting Is A Team Sport

Dear friend, parenting is a team sport. It takes great effort to raise a family.

If you and your spouse are divided as a result of quarrelling, fighting, hate speech or bad language, unhealthy arguments, successful parenting will be difficult to achieve. The Spirit of God cannot work through a family that lacks unity.

When there is contention between couples, the Spirit of God leaves. It becomes difficult under such situations to set goals which are critical in the recipe for success.

A common adage says in “unity lies strength.” Couples are to strive for unity in everything that they do. The scriptures teach, “Now the God of patience and consolation grant you to be like-minded one toward another according to Christ Jesus.” That ye may with one mind and one mouth glorify God, even the Father of our LORD Jesus Christ.” (Romans 15: 5-6).

Bible admonishes couples to work towards unity at all times. Only then can they be a force to be reckoned with.

There is power in singleness of mind. When you and your spouse are like-minded in Jesus Christ, the decisions you make will be in the best interest of family members.

Jesus Christ is our greatest role model; he was humble and loving to everyone who came into his life. He fed the hungry and comforted those who were in a state of affliction. He healed the sick and provided succor to the broken –hearted. He was a unifying force among the people.

Jesus Christ taught us to love everyone including our enemies perceived or real. The love, kindness and compassion that you show will draw people closer to you. There will be harmony, peace and happiness in such a family.

An environment that is characterized by peace, love and happiness is the ideal to enhance the holistic growth and development of children. When parents are of one mind, it enhances their efforts to raise their children in accordance with gospel principles. They will have a common ground when it comes to disciplining their children. They must agree on what punishments and rewards to give for breach of discipline and for righteous conduct.

Praying together is a great way to promote singleness of mind and by extension family unity. The God of patience and consolation will grant you to be like-minded one to another in Christ Jesus. When believers are united great things can be accomplished.

A family that is united is a strong family. It is a pleasant experience to visit a home where there is peace and harmony.

King David, a great prayer warrior once noted, “Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity.”(Psalm 133:1). You cannot function at your best and you cannot achieve your goals when in a state of depression or melancholy. A peaceful mind is essential to the pursuit of your life purpose, dreams and visions.

For a couple to have a fulfilling life experience, they need to guard and protect the harmony that prevails in their home. They must not allow divisions or arguments to destroy family unity.

It takes patience, humility, love, honesty, integrity, a longing for truth and light to live in unity with other believers. These qualities need to be present in a couple for long-term sustainable happiness. They can then with one mind and one mouth sing praises to glorify God.

In conclusion, there is power in singleness of mind. It is the foundation of all success including parenting.
