Ambassador Smith Calls On Namibia Ambassador

His Excellency, Lt. Gen. Joseph Henry Smith (Rtd), Ghana’s Ambassador to the United States has been paying courtesy calls on his colleague Ambassadors to discuss matters of mutual interest between Ghana and her neighbours and developments on the African continent.

On Tuesday, May 24, 2016, Ambassador Smith called on His Excellency, Martin Andajba, Namibia’s Ambassador to the United States of America.

Welcoming Ambassador Smith, H.E. Martin Andajba said Ghana and Namibia have a long history of relationship dating as far back before Namibia’s independence and expressed his country’s appreciation the people of Ghana for their role in liberating countries in Southern Africa.

The two Ambassadors discussed events during the struggle for Independence and the role played by Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah and the formation of the Organisation of African Unity (now Africa Union) in 19963.

Ambassador Smith said, despite Ghana’s chequered political history, the past 25 years has seen peaceful elections because Ghanaians have accepted democracy as the form of government and the way forward for the country.

The two also touched on the roles the two countries are playing to further the development of the African continent.

Even though many continue to say that the 21 century belong to Africa, not much is been done to ensure the continent takes its proper place in the international community.

They agreed that the continent can develop faster if the citizenry would sacrifice for a better tomorrow, just as some developed countries have done and today, they are enjoying the fruits of their sacrifice.

The two reminded Africans, both at home and in the Diaspora, that nobody would develop the continent unless they do it themselves.
