Niger Ambassador Calls On Ghana’s Ambassador

Ambassador of Niger, Her Excellency Hassana Alidou on Tuesday May 31, 2016 paid a courtesy call on His Excellency Lt. Gen. Joseph Henry Smith (Rtd), Ghana’s Ambassador to the United States of America (USA).

The two Ambassadors discussed matters of mutual interest to the two countries, especially the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).

The two also discussed their citizens in both countries with Her Excellency, Hassana Alidou noting that Ghana for many years has been Niger’s Diaspora in Africa and said “most wealthy Nigeriens were those residing and doing business in Ghana”.

She commended Ghana for the leadership role the country continue to play in the sub-region and hoped security issues that is destabilizing the sub-region could be resolved to enable the region take its proper place in the international community.

His Excellency Lt. Gen. Smith likened the success of ECOWAS states to the manifestation of South-South cooperation and said the continent’s speedy development will depend on African countries trading with each other.

On the security of the sub-region, Ambassador Smith said it was encouraging to note that the African Union is working round the clock on the security of the continent and said with Ghana’s peace keeping experience around the world her role in providing security and stability on the continent, would enhance investment and create jobs for the youth.
