IGP Confers With Nigerian Counterpart On How To Advance Security

Ghana's Inspector General of Police, Mr. John K. Kudalor and his Nigerian counterpart, Mr. Solomon E. Arase today held bilateral talks at the United Nations Headquarters in New York on how they can forge ahead and cooperate in policing to advance safety and security in their respective countries.

They discussed common challenges facing them, including the Fulani menace, cyber security, terrorism, training and current trends in policing.

Their discussions were held on the flanks of the on-going first ever United Nations Chief of Police Summit {COPS}, which began today, May 2, 2016 at the United Nations headquarters in New York. lt is being attended by Member States, key UN Police partners as well as COPS and expected to be addressed by the Secretary-General.

Mr. Kudalor stressed the need for them to regularly exchange ideas and support each other since they have common problems that require sharing of experiences and intelligence.

On his part, Mr. Arase noted that from the discussions it as become very clear that they have similar problems and experiences, like the problems of the nomadic Fulani herdsmen, which requires tact, else it will become dangerous if not properly handled.

He supported the idea of sharing intelligence and crime analysis, considering the present technological advancement and sophisticated crimes in the world.

The COPS at this summit will also examine new perspectives on national policing challenges and the benefits for officers deploying to United Nations peacekeeping operations.

Another key topic of discussion will be how best to enhance United Nations Police performance through intelligence, technology, innovation and Police capacity building. In addition, the summit will provide an opportunity for Member states to gain a better understanding on the current and projected needs of United Nation Police.

Yesterday, The IGP paid a courtesy call on Ghana;s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Mrs Martha Pobee, during which she briefed-the IGP on work of the Mission at the UN. The IGP in turn briefed her about the summit and the benefits that will accrue from it to Ghana..
