The Royal Bank of Ghana has commissioned 19 boreholes for 17 communities in the Upper East Region.

The project which is part of the company's corporate social responsibility is aimed at providing potable water for residents in those communities.

The beneficiary communities include: Begwebia,Namolo, Kusingu,Janania,Yagnania,Gana and Pina in the Kasena-Nakana municipal, Gwenia, Katiu,Paga Badunu and Paga Zenga in the  Kasena-Nakana West district.

The rest are Kongo in the Nabdam district, Sakom, Tinonde in the Bawku West district and Kalibiisa-Yipaala, Kanaasa-Kori and Weaga in the Builsa North district.

At a group commissioning of the boreholes at Katiu, the Board Chairman of the Royal Bank, Dr. Kofi Koduah Sarpong said the company is poised at helping needy communities with such interventions adding that water related diseases will be reduced drastically because of the projects.

He noted that the founder of the bank, Dr. Adamu Iddrisu is also passionate about such interventions in a bid to support deprived communities

60 more boreholes to be drilled
According to Dr. Sarpong, at least, 60 boreholes have also been earmarked for drilling in coming years adding that so far 37 water projects have been erected at various places in the country with the Upper West Region benefitting from 16.

“Our main focus is delivery of water to our communities. we have chosen water because water is life especially in the North water is key.”

Dr. Sarpong appealed to the beneficiary communities to ensure regular maintenance of the facilities to boost their lifespan.

For his part, Pe Mutala Ayikode Zangwio Atoge (IV) on behalf of his colleague chiefs, was grateful to the Royal Bank for the projects saying it was a timely intervention which will improve access to potable water for mostly domestic purposes.

Speaking to Citi News, assembly member for Balonia electoral area, Mr. Nyoke Abdullah Mumuni said prior to the project, community members were drinking from streams and dug-out wells and had decided to contribute to erect such projects before the intervention.

He thanked the bank for the humanitarian gesture adding that the projects will be put to good use.

The Royal Bank Foundation is focused on supporting Education, health, water and sanitation as well as culture and sports.
