MAY 27, 2016 LISTEN

The Speaker of Parliament, Edward Doe Adjaho has warned the authorities of the Avenor Traditional Area in the Avenor-Ave constituency of the Volta region to desist from dragging his name and office into chieftaincy troubles in the area.

A  press statement allegedly issued by Torgbi Dorglo Anumah VI, Fiaga of the Avenor Traditional Area, allegedly reported the elevation of Torgbi Samlafo IV to paramount status.

In the said statement, Torgbi Anumah VI claimed that “it is being alleged that the Rt. Hon. Speaker of Parliament Edward Doe Adjaho, is illicitly behind this elevation saga.”

“We are amazed by this story and cannot believe it to be true as Avenor State is solidly behind him to rise to his present status of which we are proud of. It will be greatly appreciated if he would come out clean on this episode,” the purported statement added.

But a statement signed by the Principal Assistant Clerk of Parliament, Ebenezer Ahumah Djietror, said the Speaker finds the allegation as “offensive, objectionable and false” since the he does not play any role in deciding the rightful person to be elevated or not.”

“The Speaker finds the above allegation offensive, objectionable, false and without merit. Throughout his distinguished public life, the Speaker has played absolutely no role – either privately or publicly – in deciding who gets enstooled or elevated as a chief anywhere in Ghana.”

“By this statement, the Speaker is asking the various sides to this matter to stop dragging his name and office into these chieftaincy matters. Instead, the various factions must use the due process of custom and tradition, as well as laid down legal processes to resolve their differences, if any,” the statement added.
