Accra, May 26, 2016 - 3SiL, the parent company of Strategic Power Solutions (SPS), the only solar panel manufacturing plant in West Africa has hosted His Royal Highness, Prince Edward, The Earl of Wessex at an exclusive luncheon as part of activities to mark the 60th anniversary of the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Awards known in Ghana as the Head of State Award Scheme.

His Royal Highness, Prince Edward, The Earl of Wessex is the Patron of the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Awards. This Awards scheme is aimed at youth development across the world hence the luncheon is a demonstration of 3Sil’s support for youth development in Ghana.

Speaking at the event, Dr. Francis Akuamoah Boateng, Chairman of 3SiL commended the Earl of Wessex and managers of the award scheme for their contribution towards equipping young people to be better versions of themselves, for their own good and the good of society in general.

He further noted that the vision of the Award Scheme which is to equip young people as individuals for success in life as well as enable them impact positively on society, is in line with the company’s corporate social initiative interventions as well as its core values.

As a company that champion’s positive change in the lives of Ghanaians, 3SiL’s Solar Lighting Programme has over the years provided the rural areas of Ghana with solar powered lamps and streetlights aimed at improving the social-economic lives, increasing security and enhancing the night lives of rural dwellers. Under the programme, 1.2 million solar torch lights have been distributed to farmers across cocoa, sheanut and coffee growing areas of the country.

Throwing more light on the activities of 3SiL aimed at youth development, Dr. Akuamoah Boateng added that “17,000 units of solar street lights have been installed so far across all cocoa and sheanut growing districts in the catchment areas of Northern Ghana. Young people in these communities now have access to an alternative source of power and are enabled to study better especially at night”.

This exclusive luncheon which was strictly by invitation and proudly sponsored by 3SiL was followed by a gala and fund raising event on May 25th.
