African Union: A Present Day Conduit For Neocolonialism, The Rise Of Africa In Disintegration And Chaos.

Africa is rising, yes! But by what standards? Here we are today enjoying a field day because of the dream of a United continent of nations from men who understood the spirituality attached to the name one gets when born.

Let's face it. How many young educated Africans understand the core objectives of the AU? Why did we even change the name from OAU which to me made it more clearly that we needed an organization that sort solely to ensure that Africa got united by the close of the past century.

Not much can be said about whether or not we are still on track following what the likes of Selassie, Nkrumah, Kenyatta, Lumumba etc put out as a blueprint so we wouldn't have had to get to this stage ; neocolonialism.

This has become so pervasive that just a simple search on the internet with your phone gives results that speaks volumes.

The European Union is an economic-political union of 28 member states that are located primarily in Europe. It covers an area of 4,324,782 km², with an estimated population of over 508 million.

Area: 4.325 million km²
Founded: November 1, 1993, Maastricht, Netherlands
Headquarters: City of Brussels, Belgium
Largest city: London
Unemployment rate: 9.6% (Apr 2015) Eurostat
Awards: Nobel Peace Prize
Founders: France, Belgium, Luxembourg, Italy, Netherlands, Germany

The African Union is a continental union consisting of 54 countries in Africa. The only African state that is an UN member, but is not a member of the African Union is Morocco, due to the Political status of Western Sahara.

Founder: Muammar Gaddafi
Founded: May 26, 2001, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia
Headquarters: Addis Ababa, Ethiopia
Largest city: Lagos
Parent organizations: Organisation of African Unity, African Economic Community

Is this to story we will be telling our children? We have also allowed those whose ship docked on the shores of the West Coast of Africa years ago tell the story, yet we expect a good story ironically. Was Gaddafi the founder if indeed it was just a change of name from OAU to AU? I won't want to talk about whether there was even a union when aliens came killing this same man somehow credited with founding a supposed unified African front.

Do we ever get to sit at EU meetings? How then is it that 54 muscles that should have been stretched enough by now get to be weaker than 28 that only saw light in 1993 relative to 1963?

Africa is not united. We are having misleaders who can best be described as suffering from schizophrenia. An Africa that does not itself. Wars tear up beautiful nations right under the watch of AU. They know the hands behind those wars but for fear of being assassinated as their forefathers were, will watch a million children die than loose a position at the AU summit.

Today we are meeting in South Africa and not much is left to be desired of that country than the precious memories of Madiba. Some of those countries present today are there for ceremonial reasons but have their nation's script with the colonial master. We long lost the script of unity. Chaos is what ties us to the ground as evident in the decisions that gets noted on papers at AU gatherings but never see the light. Maybe we need to go back and stress the word UNITY that clarified the purpose of the existence of the organization than accept that members on there now are just members of a Union just because they are in Africa and thus connoting an idea that subliminally makes each member fight for its own personal gain, while God fights for the entire Africa.

God bless Africa.
