Grand Jury Draws Indictment Against Sen. Sherman, Speaker Tyler, Sable Mining Inc., & Others

Monrovia, Liberia (May 25, 2016): The Special Presidential Task Force, set up by President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, to probe the Global Witness (GW) corruption report involving current and former officials of government, says an indictment has been drawn against key individuals linked to the scandal.

Those indicted include Grand Cape Mount County Senator, Cllr. Varney Sherman, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. J. Alex Tyler, Businessman Christopher Ononuga, Sable Mining Inc., and former Deputy Minister of Lands, Mines & Energy, Mr. ECB Jones.

The indictments were drawn by the Grand Jury of Montserrado County, against those believed to have played active roles in the scandal.

The Special Presidential Task Force which has been investigating the alleged scandal, further notes that the indictment was drawn following a comprehensive probe, which included the gathering of sufficient evidence against individuals implicated.

According to Minister Koffa, the team has now entered into the prosecutorial stage while the investigation continues.

“We are now in the prosecutorial stage and we are going to proceed with the prosecution as planned,” he said.

The Chairman also emphasized that the Panel will not leave any stone unturned in ensuring the final determination of this case.

“We would pursue this matter to the fullest. We are not going to leave any stone unturned to redeem the image of the country,” Cllr. Koffa said.

Meanwhile, the Task Force has instituted arrest warrants against businessman Christopher Ononuga, while Mr. ECB Jones and Sen. Sherman have already to turned themselves in. Efforts are continuing to have Speaker Tyler served his indictment.
