AngloGold hands GH350,000 projects to schools

AngloGold Ashanti, Obuasi Community Trust Fund has provided two senior high schools (SHS) and a farming community with water and sanitation facilities costing, GH¢350,000.00.

The Akrofoum Senior High Technical School benefitted from the construction of a mechanized borehole with an overhead tank and washrooms, while the Akapoliso Christ the King Catholic SHS has been also assisted with a mechanized borehole and overhead water tank.

Anyankyirem, a farming community in the Amansie Central District, on its part, has been supplied with a borehole to give the people access to safe drinking water.

Nana Ampofo Bekoe, Sustainability Manager of AngloGold Ashanti Obuasi Mine, handing over the projects in separate ceremonies, said these were funded from a Trust Fund set up to support of the development of communities in its operation area.

One per cent of the company's after tax profit is put into this Fund and under it, eight mini-buses had been bought for eight SHS.

Additionally, 110 desktop computers had been supplied to some junior high schools (JHS).

Nana Bekoe also spoke of the construction and refurbishment of a number of classroom blocks.

He put the cost of water and sanitation facilities the Fund had built in the Obuasi Municipality at over GH¢672,000.00 and appealed to be beneficiary communities to show ownership of the projects by taking good care of them.

Nana Okyere Boahantan II, Adansi-Fomena Twafohene, hailed the Company for helping to create the right conditions for effective teaching and learning in the schools. GNA
