Kumasi, May 24, GNA - The Asante Youth Association (AYA), a pressure group, has expressed concern about the stalemate over the election of a Presiding Member (PM) by the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) and is pleading with the two contestants to step aside for fresh nominations.

It said the inability of the assembly members to break the deadlock was unhelpful to the socio-economic development of the city and could not continue.

'Currently nothing seems to go on at the assembly. The technocrats are left to make their own favorable decisions.'

The group therefore suggested that both men - Nana Kofi Senya and Baffour Agyei Kesse, withdrew their nomination in the interest of the progress of the metropolis.

This was contained in a press statement signed by its President, Nana Yaw Brenya in Kumasi.

It sneered at what it said was the political polarization of the assembly, which was making it difficult for the members to find a common ground.

The statement indicated that with the entrenched position taken by the supporters of the pair, it would take a miracle for either of them to be elected as PM.

AYA prodded the Members of Parliament (MPs) in the metropolis to overcome, what it claimed was their indifference and move to help resolve the impasse.
