NDC Suspends Women Organizer For Speaking To Chronicle
24.05.2016 LISTEN

From Alfred Adams, Takoradi
After the Takoradi Constituency Chairman of the National Democratic Congress and his Women Organizer had embarked on the Usain Bolt sort of race on the corridors of the Sekondi Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly (STMA) over GH1000, which was meant for distribution to market women to win their votes, the party has shamelessly gone ahead to suspend the Women Organizer, accusing her of leaking the information to The Chronicle.

Ms. Emma Insaidoe, the Women Organizer, according to sources close to her, was handed a suspension letter a couple of days ago, in what is being described as a palace coup, engineered by  the constituency executives, led by the chairman Illiasu Alhassan.

The latter has confirmed in interaction with this reporter that Madam Insaidoe had indeed been suspended for leaking party information.

According to him, the Women Organizer confirmed in an interview with The Chronicle that he (chairman) snatched money meant for her (Women Organizer) from the hands of the Metropolitan Chief Executive for Sekondi-Takoradi, when she knew that what she was saying was a lie.

The Chronicle was told that on the day the publication hit the newsstands, the executives convened a meeting to suspend the Women Organizer, without giving her a chance to state her side of the story. The Women Organizer has confirmed her suspension but declined to go into details, when The Chronicle contacted her on phone.

The suspension letter signed by the Constituency Secretary was reportedly handed over to the Women Organizer by the Communication Director, Baba Aliu, but the latter feigned knowledge of the suspension, when this reporter contacted him.

It would be recalled that in the last Wednesday edition of The Chronicle, the paper reported a drama that unfolded at the offices of the Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE) for Sekondi Takoradi, when a meeting attended by the NDC party Chairmen and Women Organizers drawn from the five constituencies in the metropolis turned into vitriolic attacks and snatching away of party funds.

The meeting, called at the instance of the MCE, was to discuss with the party executives how to disburse a sum of GH10, 000 to women groups engaged in petty trading in the five constituencies. According to sources, the parties agreed that the MCE would hand over the money to the Women Organizers, who would in turn register the petty traders and disburse the funds to them.

The idea was to maximize votes.
This reporter gathered that the disbursement of the funds to the Women Organizers went on smoothly until it got to the turn of the Takoradi constituency.

The constituency Chairman, Illiasu Alhassan, who had only been invited to observe the disbursement allegedly jumped from his seat and snatched the money from the hands of the MCE, as the latter was making the attempt to hand over the money to the Constituency Women Organizer, Madam Emma Insaidoe.

Illiasu, after snatching the money, reportedly took to his heels with his Women Organizer giving him a hot chase on the corridors of the STMA to collect the money. Illiasu, though confirmed in a telephone interview with this reporter of the meeting, he denied snatching away the money meant for his Women Organizer from the hands of the MCE.

To him, he took possession of the money because he did not trust his Women Organizer to honestly disburse the funds to the intended recipients. The Women Organizer on her part, in a telephone interview with this reporter, also confirmed that indeed her Chairman snatched the money from the hands of the MCE, as the latter was about to hand over the cash to her.
