I will provide quality leadership to GNCCI - Nana Dankawoso

Accra, May 23, GNA - Nana Dr Appiagyei Dankawoso, the President of the Ghana National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GNCCI), has pledged to provide quality leadership to members of the Chamber.

In an interview with the Ghana News Agency to outline his vision for the GNCCI during his tenure, Nana Dankawoso, the former Second Vice-President of the Chamber, said he would provide a leadership of innovation and commitment, and 'indeed a leadership that is transparent and fair to all.'

Nana Dankawoso, who was elected at the 40th Annual General Meeting of the Chamber in Accra early this year, said his administration would primarily embark on new horizons and endeavours of capacity-building to promote unity, encourage hard work, and strive towards meritorious service and teamwork.

He pledged to facilitate the opening of regional chambers where there were none and strengthen and expand existing ones through workshops and other capacity-building initiatives.

'We will work collaboratively with the Government of the day to improve, embolden, and enrich the private sector so that we can make positive contributions towards the development of the Ghanaian economy,' Nana Dankawoso said.

He said: 'For instance we will advise the Government and the Bank of Ghana to introduce good fiscal and monetary policies to help grow and expand the economy.'

Nana Dankawoso pledged to support and encourage member companies to take advantage of trade and investment and business opportunities that became available to the Chamber to improve and expand their own businesses.

'Also, we will encourage the formation of partnerships to expand and strengthen the existing companies to make them more viable, efficient, competitive and profitable,' he said.

He said the Chamber, under his leadership, would strengthen the relationship with tertiary institutions, especially the universities and polytechnics, to work with the GNCCI within the framework of a well-resourced research unit.

This, in his view, would review school curriculum to promote industrial, commercial, as well as agricultural production adding; 'this will be the effort of the private sector to increase productivity and help reduce unemployment.'

Nana Dankawoso said his administration would come up with a five-year strategic plan that would focus on the development of the private sector and members of the Chamber in general towards the improvement and expansion of the Ghanaian economy.

He said the GNCCI would encourage and support the Women's Caucus in the Chamber because women not only formed the majority of the nation's population but also dominated the retail trade of buying and selling.

Nana Dankawoso pledged that the GNCCI would work closely with the various embassies and their missions as well as co-operate with sister-chambers of commerce across the African continent and the world at large to boost trade.

'In doing so we will improve our capacities as well as enhance the prestige and image of the Ghanaian Chamber,' he said.

The GNCCI President paid glowing tribute to the old executives for their selfless, dedicated and meritorious services to the Chamber and pledged to continue and complete whatever investment and development projects they were undertaking.

He appealed to the members to lend their fullest support in order to make the tenure of the new executives successful.
