The Mahama administration lacks ideas in fighting poverty, Alan Kyerematen, a one-time flagbearer hopeful of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has said.

Mr Kyerematen said President John Mahama and his government are in a haze about how to lift Ghanaians out of the doldrums, and has, therefore, urged the citizens to replace the Mahama administration with an Akufo-Addo-led government at the November polls.

According to him, the building of roads, hospitals, and schools were only a stop-gap in the fight against poverty, adding that what people really needed were jobs.

“The biggest problem Ghana faces now is how we can reduce poverty to create jobs, and the best way to reduce is to create jobs,” Mr Kyerematen stated at Klikor in the Ketu South constituency, Volta Region, when he accompanied the flagbearer of the NPP, Nana Akufo-Addo, on his tour of the region, as part of his campaign activities ahead of the upcoming polls.

He assured Ghanaians that a future NPP government would embark on a “comprehensive and ambitious programme of industrialisation never before seen in this country, because it is only through industrialisation that we can create jobs,” he indicated.

The former Minister of Trade also indicated that plans would be put in place by an Akufo-Addo government to make Ketu North and Ketu South industrial zones.

“If you give the NPP the chance to come into power, Ketu North and Ketu South in particular will be declared an industrial zone.”

Meanwhile, Mr Akufo-Addo has said he will make Alan Kyerematen Minister of Trade in his future government to ensure he contributes the rich ideas he has, as far as job creation is concerned, for the benefit of the country.

“The plans that he has, the creation of an industrial zone here, and the revival of our industry is exactly what we are going to do,” the NPP flagbearer said.
