Kpone, May 19 GNA - An election security task force to ensure the smooth and peaceful conduct of the November general elections in the Kpone Katamanso District has been inaugurated in the Kpone.

The Task force is made up of various security agencies and institutions including the Ghana Police Service, Military, Ghana National Fire Service, Bureau of National investigation (BNI), National Commission for Civic Education, Electoral Commission, and National Disaster Management Organization.

As part of its terms of reference, the task force is expected to ensure incident-free and generally peaceful elections throughout the district.

DSP William Jabialu, the District Police Commander, who doubles as the chairman of the newly constituted task force, said a peaceful election devoid of violence was non-negotiable and that the task force would work assiduously to ensure smooth polls in the district in November.

He said the task force which has seven sub-committees would plan, coordinate and implement directives from the regional and national security taskforces, adding that a joint operation centre to be constituted would monitor security situations in the entire district and report subsequently.

He expressed optimism that with the well-constituted task force, the already peaceful atmosphere in the district would be maintained before, during and after the elections.

Mr Kwame Amoah, Greater Accra Regional Director of the Electoral Commission pledged his outfit's commitment in ensuring a transparent and credible election whose results would be accepted by all.

An election bereft of violence, he said, was a shared and collective responsibility of all.

Speaking on the just ended limited registration exercise, Mr Amoah indicated that, in all, 6963 persons were registered and issued with voter identification cards with only one verified challenge case.

He said with the coming into force of the Public Elections regulations, 2016 (C.I 91), the Commission is expected to conduct periodic and continuous registration, adding that individuals who were unable to register could walk to district offices to get registered.
