Awunakrom (W/R), May 9, GNA - The Golden Star Wassa Limited (GSWL), a mining company operating in Awunakrom in the Ahanta West District, has spent 230,000 dollars to construct a market, toilet facility, church and a house for the chief, Nana Kojo Lebi.

The crop farming/small scale mining company, in line with its corporate social responsibility, had in addition trained 58 youth in employable skills such as hairdressing, mobile phone repairing, dress making and bags/shoe making at the cost of 80,000 dollars.

The youth, who graduated after five months of training, were provided with working materials like sewing machines and hair dressing kits to start with.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency at the commissioning and graduation ceremony at Awunakrom, Nana Kofi Nyankum IV, the Divisional Chief of Pretea, who chaired the function, advised the trainees to put their training into good use so as to become self-sufficient.

He expressed regret that often the youth received training in various employable skills but abandoned it for other lucrative activities which eventually collapsed.

Mr Joseph Dofoyenah, the District Chief Executive (DCE) for Ahanta West, commended the management of GSWL for its developmental projects and urged the people to maintain them well to prolong their lifespan to benefit present and succeeding generations.

While encouraging them to make judicious use of the skills acquired to help solve the unemployment situation in the area, the DCE urged the electorate to contribute towards building the district as the assembly alone could not shoulder all the responsibilities in view of its numerous commitments.

Mr John Seaward, the General Manager of GSWL, in a speech read on his behalf, assured the people of company's preparedness to comply with the agreement it entered into with the elders to provide their demands.

Some of the beneficiaries, Madam Theresa Arthur and Mr Thomas Amoaning promised to put the training into good use to improve their lot.

The chiefs and people defied the sudden heavy rains to jubilate over the construction of the developmental projects by the company and graduation of the youth.
