The Batsonaa Divisional Police Command has arrested two securitymen on suspicion of complicity in a robbery attack on the Member of Parliament for Okere Constituency, Mr Dan Botwe, on Friday.

One of the two is a personal security guard at Mr Botwe's Community 20 residence near the Accra Abbatoir, while the other is a security guard in an adjourning house in the vicinity.

They were being held on suspicion of facilitating the entry of the robbers.

The Batsonaa Divisional Commander, Chief Superintendent Baba Adamu told the Daily Graphic that the two were picked up following inconsistencies in the accounts they gave in connection with the incident.

The MP, who was reportedly asleep was rudely awaken by the three masked men around 1am on Friday, who held him and his wife hostage for close to 45 minutes and ransacked his room.

They made away with items including wedding rings, jewelry, mobile phones, laptops and an undisclosed amount of money. The value of the items, according to Chief Adamu was yet to be known.

The personal assistant to Mr Botwe, Mr Danso Attafuah told the Daily Graphic that the MP who came back from the Eastern region on a voter registration exercise monitoring was resting to enable him travel to the Ashanti Region on Friday for similar activities.

'He surrendered and gave the robbers everything they asked for, so they could not harm him or any member of his family', Mr Danso said.

Mr Botwe who was shaken by the event could not grant interviews when the Daily Graphic visited the scene around 2: pm Friday afternoon.

'It was a near death experience and I was praying and consoling my wife as one of the armed men held a gun to us in our bedroom," Mr Botwe was reported to have said when the police visited the crime scene.

Investigations
Chief Adamu on the other hand indicated that the security man in Mr Botwe's residence who was reported to have escorted the robbers to the main gate after they had succeeded in breaking into the residence through a sliding window, told the police he did so on compulsion after the robbers held a gun to his head, threatening to shoot him.

He said a crime scene team which visited the scene picked up some finger prints for analysis.

He said a manhunt for the robbers was underway, and the police would ensure the suspects are arrested and brought to book.

Speaker of Parliament
The Speaker of Parliament, Mr Doe Adjaho, and a member of the National Democratic Congress, Mr Dan Abodakpi and scores of sympathisers of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) visited the residence to commiserate with Mr Botwe.
