A human rights crusader , Raphael Godlove Ahenu has expressed grave concern about the violence and human right abuses that have characterized the on-going limited registration exercise and the police inability to deal with those who are causing troubles at registration centres.

According to him, if the security agencies failed to ensure they deal with anyone who engages in registration criminal offense in the ongoing registration exercise more violence could occur in the subsequent activities by the EC.

Mr Ahenu who is the Founder/CEO of Global Media Foundation was speaking to Journalists in Sunyani after visiting some of the registration centres in the Sunyani West and Sunyani East Constituencies in the Bono-Ahafo region.

He took a swipe on the leadership of NPP and NDC for encouraging their agents to foment troubles and implored all political parties, especially the NDC and the NPP, to call their agents to order at registration centers.

Mr Ahenu however condemned the violent attacks being registered at some of the registration centres and appealed to the Police to act swiftly, arrest and prosecute perpetrators.

The CEO also expressed concern about poor participation in the on-going limited voters registration exerciseand attributed it to low publicity on the exercise.

Mr Ahenu said voting is a civic right and there is the need to ensure that no eligible voter is disenfranchised because they would not get the opportunity to register, hence the need for the EC to intensify public education on the exercise.

He said more eligible voters could be captured if the exercise is held in senior high schools (SHS) and advised the EC to consider extending the deadline to conduct special ones at the various SHS campuses.

He also appealed to civil society organisations to also support the on-going exercise by helping to intensify public education especially at the community levels.
