Manhyia North MP withdraws assault complaint

The complaint of assault lodged with the police against the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr Bernard Antwi Boasiako has been withdrawn.

The Member of Parliament for Manhyia North constituency in Kumasi, Mr Collins Owusu Amankwah and his secretary, Mr Felix Ibrahim lodged the complaint of assault which was followed with an arrest of Antwi Boasiako popularly known as Chairman Wontumi on Tuesday.

However on Wednesday morning, the complainants in a letter written through their lawyers addressed to the Ashanti Regional Police Commander and copied to the Chief State Attorney in Kumasi said they were withdrawing the case.

'We act as solicitors for Hon. Collins Owusu Amankwah and Mr. Felix Ibrahim and it is on that instruction that we write," the letter signed by Mr Shadrach Yeboah Obeng from the Obeng-Manu Law Firm said.

'Our clients are complainants in the above mentioned case against the Ashanti regional chairman of the New Patriotic Party Mr. Bernard Antwi Boasiako. Our clients have instructed us to their decision to pursue settlement and have accordingly instructed us to serve you notice of their said intention'.

'We would be grateful if you could graciously suspend further action on the case to enable the parties in good faith resolve the issue in pursuit of the said settlement'.

Chairman Wontumi reportedly attacked the MP and his constituency secretary, whilst monitoring the ongoing limited voter registration exercise on Sunday.

The MP later reported the matter to the police at Tafo Pankrono.

Subsequently, the Ashanti Regional Police Command issued a warrant for Wontumi's arrest to assist in investigations.

Chairman Wontumi on Tuesday reported himself to the police but was later detained overnight forcing party supporters to besiege the Police station demanding the Chairman's release.
