Dear Manasseh Azure Awuni:

Re: A Letter to Suicidal Bawumia

I will keep it shorter. I will neither call you names nor describe you with adjectives. I want to know what you think is the reason why political parties lately (in the Fourth Republic Ghana) choose Southern-Northern tickets. I think it's for FAIR REPRESENTATION, because Ghana is mainly divided into South and North. Another common and visible demographics however are Youth and Aged, Christianity and Islam, and Male and Female. It is noteworthy to state that political parties must consider these demographics when selecting a Presidential ticket that will be balanced and represent fairly the entire country.

Again, imperative to mention is the fact that Dr. Bawumia's comment is rather advocating for the all-inclusive government we have so been yearning for as a people of Ghana. All-inclusiveness should not be confused to mean that all the political divides are considered for the formulation of governments. It stretches further to imply that the government should picture the demography of Ghana. Every sector of this country must feel well represented!

Interestingly, government and NDC communicators have both written and spoken against Dr. Bawumia; some claiming his statement is not factual. Take Kofi Adams and Dr. Clement Apaak as examples. They either did not understand the line, intent and context of the admonition; or deliberately twisted and shed the facts for propaganda expediency. The intent and context of the statement was limited and restricted to the Presidency (President and Vice-President) and not the government apparatus in its entirety.

It is improper and unfair to compare the statement of Dr. Bawumia with any of those espoused by Dzifa Attivor, Fiifi Kwetey or President Mahama, separately and jointly. The one made by Dr. Bawumia sought to advocate for all-inclusiveness or integration. In contrast, the rest made by the NDC bigwigs were divisive or advocated exclusion.

Unfortunately, I noted in your article on Dzifa Attivor's ethnocentric comment loads of facts according to you that sought to justify the NDC's view of NPP as Akan party. But it remains your opinion and forever your entitlement.

Unless we are going to conclude that any statement by a politician that makes mention of religion or ethnicity must be condemned to ethnocentrism or divisive, Dr. Bawumia said nothing out of order.

I pray that you open your heart and mind to the facts of the matter. It is my fervent prayer, again, that you understand my letter in the same context of my best intentions to shed more light and enlighten the discussion. I implore you and other discussants to limit the matter to the merits and demerits.

Thank you in advance.

Best regards,
