STMA set to achieve revenue collection target

Sekondi (W/R), May 3, GNA - The Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly (STMA) has achieved its internally-generated revenue estimate in the first quarter of the year, collecting GH¢ 2,411,745.54 out of the projected amount of GH¢6,146,522.00, representing 39.24 percent.

In 2015, out of the projected revenue of GH¢ 5,187,124.00, the Assembly collected GH¢ 1,551,172.27 in the first quarter, representing 29.90 percent, showing improvement of 55 percent as against the same period last year.

Madam Charlotte Otuwa Odum, announced this at the First Ordinary Meeting of the First Session of the Seventh Assembly in Sekondi in the Western Region.

She said revenue inflows has seen some remarkable improvement and attributed the success, to new strategies that Assembly employed in its revenue mobilization, saying the Assembly sought support from VNG, a Netherlands State Agency, to improve its revenue generation capacity.

The MCE said the VNG introduced the Quick -Win-Project, which piloted the use of Point-of-Sales, early distribution of bills and extension of paid street parking, as well as informing the public about the achievements of the Assembly that motivated people to pay their tolls and levies.

She said the Assembly would continue observing the monthly sanitation exercise saying it had procured more tools and tasked the assembly members, to rally their constituents from their electoral areas to support the exercise.

The Assembly intends to mount 500 litter bins at vantage points in the Metropolis, in order to stop the indiscriminate littering and entreated the public to comply with the sanitation bye-laws, she said.
