The Yendi Peace Centre, the body intervening in the Bimbilla Chieftaincy dispute has confirmed peace is returning to the town following JoyNews’ documentary ‘Bullets or the Skin’.

A struggle between two families the Nakpaa Naa and the Dasana families from the same Gbuma-yili gate in Bimbilla over who becomes the next king has claimed many lives and destroyed properties running into millions of cedis.

It was investigated by Seth Kwame Boateng and aired on the JOYNEWS TV channel as well as on Joy FM's 'Hotline documentary' segment.

The town is under a 6 p.m - 6 a.m curfew. Head of the Yendi Peace Centre Rev. Father Michael Cobb says the documentary has triggered discussions in Bimbilla on how to end the dispute.

"It is interesting that some are living in Bimbilla but they don't know what the conflict is all about so the documentary was sort of an eye-opener. It also made them reflect on how deep the situation is affecting them," Rev Cobb said.

Rev Cobb said because the residents had not sat down to take in what was happening, the real cost of the conflict was lost on them.

He said as far as picking arms are concerned the residents now know better the implications of it as they are all talking about the Joy News Documentary.

Rev. Cobb says mediation by the Yendi Peace Centre under the auspices of the Catholic diocese of Yendi is still ongoing. He confirms they have been able to meet all the nine kingmakers of the Bimbilla.

"Among the many things we discussed was how to facilitate the burial of the late Nakpaa Naa whose body is in the morgue of Yendi mortuary," Rev Cobb said.

This situation, he said, is disturbing considering the social standing of the late Nakpaa Naa who is also a devout Muslim and to still not be buried is a source of worry for many in Bimbilla.

According to him as faith-based people, they have tried to speak to the kingmakers to see the way forward as far as the burial is concerned to see how they can help to facilitate it.
