Millicom Ghana Limited, operators of Tigo, has donated an amount of forty-five thousand Ghana cedis towards the campaign to protect children from ‘online predators’ and to improve online literacy in children.

The move, according to the telecom company, is part of their corporate social responsibilities aimed at contributing to the awareness creation in children and even adults in online interactions. The gesture of the telecom Company was received by J Initiative, a Non-Governmental Organization that is championing the agenda of protecting children online.

The JI team led by Awo Aidam Amenya received the donation and assured the telecom Company of the prudent use of the gesture to achieve the set targets. She urged other companies to emulate the gesture of the telecom company. “We are grateful for the commitment shown by Tigo. This will help in our drive to pursue the agenda. This is a shared responsibility and we think that the child should be fully prepared to live an individual life in society, and brought up in the spirit of the ideals proclaimed in the Charter of the United Nations, and in particular in the spirit of peace, dignity, tolerance, freedom, equality and solidarity,” she stated.

Early this year, Facebook, NCA and others partnered J Initiative to offer online tips and education to parents and children on safe internet practices.
