PPP Account for the number of children you have – PPP tells politicians
APR 19, 2016 LISTEN

The Progressive People’s Party (PPP) has demanded that all politicians account for the number of children they have as they embark on their political campaigns.

The party argues that politicians must take their accountability advocacy to another level by disclosing everything about themselves, including how many children they have, in order to gain the public’s trust.

In a Facebook post on Saturday, April 18, the PPP showcased photos of two of PPP founder Dr. Papa Kwesi Nduom children and captioned it, “Ghana’s leaders from Left to Right: Lawyer Chief Papa Wassa Nduom, Dr. Nana Kweku Nduom and Dr Papa Kwesi Nduom himself (AKA Edwumawura).”

The Party in the caption asked all other presidential candidates to account for their children especially when there are rumors that a particular presidential candidate has about 18 children.

When asked what difference the number of a candidate’s children makes, Policy Director of the PPP, Kofi Asamoah Siaw said it is the only way the electorate can tell whether or not the candidate is truthful.

“We are not actually asking for people to vote for candidates who have children or not but it is the principle of transparency. So the different that the full disclosure and accountability will make will demonstrate our commitment to the principles of transparency and probity when you are given the mandate," Mr. Siaw said.

“Because if at this level you can’t tell us what you do, then we cannot trust you to tell us what it is you use our money for and some of the decisions that take place in governance,” he added.

Mr. Kofi Asamoah Siaw was, however, unable to name the particular presidential candidate who has 18 children.

He told Joy News Editor, Araba Koomson that, “the easier way to solve this matter is that let the presidential candidates, those elected and those about to be elected, as part of their declarations let us know their family principles and that is all we are asking for.”

“The best information will come from the candidates, so we are asking them to make the declaration themselves.”
