Sacked Ashaiman MCE Was Arrested Over Fraud - Police Confirm

Police at the Emef Estate Police Station have confirmed to The Republic that the sacked Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Ashaiman, Mr Numo Adinortey Addison was arrested for allegedly defrauding by false pretense.

The defeated parliamentary aspirant of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the last primary held in the Ashaiman Constituency was said to have defrauded a certain Michael Tetteh Kwetey, a party stalwart in the Ningo-Prampram constituency under the pretext of selling a new technology of a cooking utensil to him which he could cook without using water and fried without using oil.

Mr. Adinortey has since failed to honour his side of the promise after collecting 30 percent of the total sum of GH₵17, 000 for the set of three special cooking utensil.

“We picked him up Thursday afternoon by the police at his school, Better Best International School located at Lebanon, a suburb of Ashaiman while he was busy going about the day to day administration of the school”, a police told this paper.

The NDC member was mentioned to have admitted the offense during police interrogation and promised to refund the money to the victim.

He therefore seek for permission to speak with the victim in private and immediately after that took to his heels to board a commercial vehicle and escaped without the knowledge of the police and the victim.

Information gathered by this indicated that somewhere in January 2016, the former MCE who held office for almost 4 years before he was kicked out, made a distress call to Mr. Tetteh that he was directed by a senior police officer in Tema to contact him about the advanced technological cooking utensil.

The victim granted Mr. Adinortey audience at his residence at Matehoko when the former MCE came with a Nigerian and a lady who he claimed work with him at a company called Sallad Masters, a company located at East Legon in Accra and deals in the aforementioned cooking items.

Mr. Adinortey therefore explained about the cooking utensil to the victim and gave him a leaflet together with a questioner to sign which the victim obliged.

He therefore requested for the full amount for the utensil but the victim told him he could not afford such an amount that moment and he was asked to pay 30 percent of the total amount of GH₵17, 000 which he agreed and issued a postdated cheque of GH₵5100 to him.

Few hours later, victim suspected fraud in the explanation given him and called the former MCE on his cell phone as well as texted him a message not to the clear the cheque but Mr. Adinoertey allegedly went ahead to clear the cheque through special clearance after 6 days.

Mr. Adinortey since then has refused to answer the victim’s phone call and failed also to deliver the special cooking equipment.
