Patriotic Kwahu Youth (PKY) Condemns Acting Kwahumanhene

17.04.2016 LISTEN
By Patriotic Kwahu Youth (PKY)

PKY condemns the recent assessment and endorsement by our Acting Kwahumanhene, Nana Asiedu Agyemang III, of the Mahama government. We also condemn his unfortunate invocation of curses on our people for their constitutional rights to vote freely for whoever they wish.

In fact, we are shocked by the very idea of an overtly political indulgence by the Chief. Accordingly, we wish to ask the Kwahu Traditional Council to ban such a practice which is abhorred by our nation's constitution, as soon as possible, with strong sanctions attached to any violation thereof.

Indeed, this escalating practice of Chiefs indulging in such divisive politics must be curtailed across the country. It is very divisive and dangerous, as well as unconstitutional for anyone to use the revered chieftancy institution to promote any parochial political agenda.

Kwahu people, like many tribes in this country, respect our rich history, traditions, culture, customs and elders, which in many ways define who we are, a proud and positive group of Ghanaians.

Accordingly, we wish to put it on the record, our respect for the Adontenhene, who currently acts as the Omanhene of Kwahuman, as the search continues for the next Omanhene of our lands and people, with the death of the highly respected Daasebre Akuamoah Boateng II.

However, the unvarnished truth is that across Kwahu and amongst our people, the commonly-held view is that the economic performance of this government is the worst in our country's history, characterised by years of the business-killing Dumsor and now Mensor problems.

Again, like many Ghanaians, Kwahu people are an industrious, entrepreneurial, enterprising and noted business people par excellence. So, we know first-hand that today's business climate, corruption and unemployment problems, are the worst ever.

Building up the nation's infrastructure is important, albeit Kwahuman has certainly not gotten a fair deal from this government. For instance, a Water Project which started years ago, is yet to be completed. The same could be said about the Atibie-Nkawkaw main road. The expansion of the Nkawkaw township roads also ended with the term of President Kufuor. We have many such examples to give but for want of space.

If the development of Kwahuman was dear to this government, would these have happened? So, it beats our imagination, the basis upon which the Adontenhene would say some of the nice things he said about the NDC and President Mahama.

Furthermore, some infrastructural work is done by all governments. So, even President Mahama while in opposition, himself, used to downplay using such things as the basis upon which a people with high expectations will be impressed.

In fact, to folks who understand business, but for the current unprecedented corruption, this government which had the blessing of and surely took full advantage of our new-found oil and borrowed at an unprecedented level, should have done several times more infrastructural development.

Indeed, the Mahama government's corruption is so unprecedented that they cannot even cost their projects for all to see. We are sure you can imagine why. The corruption is not only in Accra. In fact, in Kwahu this government has given us an "Nkawkaw Woyome" MCE.

When reputable bodies calculate or such information leak out about the cost of these projects, of course, we keep finding unprecedented artificial inflation and robbery.

Waste and looting are the order of the day, with unprecedented misuse of national coffers such as on Woyome and Smarttys of Bus rebranding fame, as well as the routine sharing of V8s with elites across the country, to buy their allegiance with our precious resources. We know how these stolen monies could rather better the lives of poor Ghanaians, in case the government becomes interested.

Meanwhile, repayment of those huge debts are already swallowing up our future ability to fix the economy, even as the business climate remains bleak, corruption escalates and unemployment becomes a pandemic.

So, we of PKY, respectfully wish to state our strong belief that the people of Kwahu overwhelmingly do not share the Chief's assessment and endorsement of this government. Neither do we ever deserve any curses from the Acting Kwahumanhene or anyone else.

Kwahuman rather endorses positive change, which will reignite the economy and reduce corruption so that our people and all Ghanaians, for that matter, can do good business, prosper and get good jobs again.

Finally, not only do we condemn this bizarre behaviour by the Acting Omanhene, we reiterate our respectful call to the Kwahu Traditional Council to call the Acting Kwahumanhene to order, as soon as possible.

Asase Aban!

Yente Gyae!

Long-live, Kwahuman!

God Bless our Homeland Ghana!
