Techiman (B/A), Dec. 14, GNA - A one-day seminar on the National Education Bill for 20 stakeholders has been held at Techiman. It was organised by the Ghana National Education Campaign Coalition (GNECC) under the theme " Good Quality and Enjoyable Basic Education For All'' irrespective of ethnic or religious background, gender or disabilities among others.

The seminar was to afford the stakeholders insight knowledge of the Bill, know whether the Bill relates to the present system of education as well as to know the differences between the education Act of 1961 (ACT 87) and the new Education Bill so as to make inputs on those areas the Bill did not cover and other grey areas.

Facilitating the seminar, Mr Isaac Adangabe, Techiman Municipal Secretary of Education For All Team (EFAT) of the GNECC said, GNECC is a body of civil society organisations concerned with the proper development of education in ensuring accessibility of quality education for all.

Mr Adangabe indicated that GNECC, which has both international and national dimensions, originates from OXFAM International (OI) in collaboration with several international organisations and NGO's aimed at securing good quality Basic Education for all by the year 2015.

The Secretary said, the campaign was targeted at changing the policies and attitudes of institutions, governments and inter-governmental bodies, donors and creditors as well as the general public.

Mr Adangabe explained that, GNECC is based on the core principles of the right of citizens to accountability by educating policy makers and managers and therefore tackles issues that constrain access to good quality education by all.

The stakeholders called for the abolition of Parent-Teacher-Association (PTA) dues and other levies at the basic level and above all, membership of the PTA's should be Voluntary and not compulsory, since education is to be made free, universal and compulsory.

The participants also called for the registration of private institutions as a limited liability companies so that PTA's can become shareholders.

Mr Joseph Ankomah, Techiman Municipal GNAT Secretary, who presided over the seminar, urged the members and stakeholders to work hard to bring about the needed education in the Municipality towards effective Teaching and Learning.
