Huawei Technologies (Ghana) S.A. Limited has sponsored the 89th Founders’ Day Celebration which was spearheaded by the Old Achcimotans Association (OAA) 1966/67 Year Group who also marked their 50th Anniversary.

The donation comes as part of the company’s corporate social responsibility in the area of education.

Huawei donated to the school and the year group a sponsorship package to the tune of over 120,000 USD which included major support of the Founder’s Celebrations as well as a cash donation towards construction of a new ultramodern 2000 sitting capacity Dining Hall; a project being undertaken by the OAA 1966/67 Year Group as part of their golden jubilee celebrations.

Speaking on the donation, the Managing Director of Huawei Ghana, Mr. Russell Xuhu, remarked “Huawei is committed to positively develop the lives of the people in countries where we operate and one of the ways we sought to do this is through meaningful contributions towards the development of education.”

“Hence our support demonstrates our commitment to developing education in Ghana,” he said.

Mr. Xuhu added that, Achimota School has played and continue to play a pivotal role in Ghana’s educational sector as well as shares in the rich educational history of the country.

Achimota School has over the years trained quite a significant number of prominent Ghanaians as well as Africans who have impressively contributed in one way or the other to positively impact their countries as well as people around them.

From Ex-President Jerry John Rawlings to the late President, Prof. John Evans Fiifi Attah Mills, Achimota School continues to provide role models to the society.

This year, the 89th Founders’ Day celebrations was marked from the 4th to the 6th of March and it was under the theme; “Championing Education which is Nationalistic in Orientation”.

From the Bonfire to the Grand Durbar and the Thanksgiving Service, this year’s celebration lived up to expectations. The Grand Durbar which was on Saturday the 5th of March, saw the attendance of some dignitaries who included Ex-President Rawlings and His wife the former First Lady, Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings, H.E. Madam Helen Kofi, former Ghana Ambassador to China and Mr. Kojo Thompson the former Managing Director of Ghana Commercial Bank who all happen to be part of the OAA 1966/67 Year Group.

The President of the Year Group, Mr. Appiah Ampofo thanked Huawei Technologies Ghana for their generosity in his speech and advised corporate Ghana to show more interest in the education.

Huawei Technologies Ghana was recently accorded the Best CSR ICT Company of the Year at the 2015 Ghana CSR Excellence Awards for their immerse contributions in CSR nationwide.
