TechAide And Implementers Partner IBM, Peace Corps, Others To Empower Girls In Ghana

In an attempt to address the challenges that hinders girls’ education in Ghana, TECHAiDE,a technology- focused social enterprise that addresses the development needs of citizens, especially the vulnerable and needy, in developing countries and communities in a unique way teamed up with IMPLEMENTERS another multi sectorial development management and education non-profit organization dedicated to implementing social development and educational projects and other international organizations like Peace Corps, International Business Machines (IBM) under the “Let Girls Learn Initiative” to empower young girls to aspire for greater heights. The Let Girls Learn program is a United States government initiative to ensure adolescent girls get the education they deserve.

The memorandum of understanding between TECHAiDE and Partners was signed at a one-day workshop at the Ashesi University in Ghana. The workshop was facilitated by IBM Corporate Service Corps (CSC), and the Ministry of Gender, Women and Social Protection. The workshop focused on career empowerment with 25 girls across the country with their teachers participating.

With its tech-based strategy in solving challenges that confronts society especially the girl child, TECHAiDE showcased its new technology called ASANKA (the Wisdom Pot), an acronym for All Subjects And New Knowledge Access, with content developed by IMPLEMENTERS to solve a crucial gap in the Ghana educational system and also to aidthe learning and overall development and empowerment of the girl child.

Commenting on the partnership, the CEO of TECHAiDE, Kafui Prebbie said that, the purpose of the partnership falls in line with what TECHAiDE and IMPLEMENTERS stand for, i.e. “making change in the lives of the young population especially the girl child”.

Mr. Prebbie averred that the two organizations are committed in playing its effective role of using technology based solutions in ensuring that the “Let Girls Learn Initiative” becomes a success.

“We at TECHAiDE are passionate about the development of the girl child through education and we feel proud to support the “Let girls Learn Initiative” that is aimed at transforming and also empowering the girl child through education. We value the partnership because we are catalyzing a community-led change by improving access to education for girls in Ghana”, Mr. Prebbie added.

Crowning the program, Angela Kyerematen – Jimoh, Country manager of IBM Ghana, mentoring the girls at the program, urged them to believe in themselves and defy all odds to aim high to make a difference in the society.

“Been a girl should not limit you to compete for the best. If you want to be great, you must move from your comfort zones to learn something different. I’m urging you to be determined, confident, hardworking and focused to achieve your goals and aspirations”, the first female country manager of IBM said.

The 25 girls after the workshop expressed their gratitude to the organizers of the CSC Community Service and “Let Girls Learn Initiative.

The girls, drawn from Junior and senior high schools across the country were presented with certificate for their participation. According to them the workshop has opened their mind to aspire to make a difference.

“The mentorship programme has been inspirational to us. It has taught as to be confident, hardworking and also opens our mind to the world of possibilities and we are grateful”, one of the girls said.
