Widower of the late Cynthia Nuworsu who died at the Madina Kekele Polyclinic due to alleged professional negligence has sued the Polyclinic and three others asking for GHS5million compensation.

Bernard Otoo sued the Minister of Health, Director-General of Ghana Health Service, the Attorney-General and the Madina Polyclinic last Friday for professional negligence leading to the death of his wife and mother of four.

His lawyer, Francis Sosu Xavier confirmed this to Adom News, saying all four defendants have been duly served and so have to file their defence or judgment will be given against them.

He said they are asking the court to punish the hospital and their employers for negligence of duty leading to the death of Cynthia Nuworsu.

Bernard Otoo took his pregnant wife to the Madina Polyclinic on the evening of June 17, 2015 where the medical staff induced labour because they said her pregnancy had gone beyond the mandated 40 weeks.

According to Bernard, his wife told the medical officers at the polyclinic that when she delivered her first girl it took 10 months so she did not see any problem with the delay, but they insisted on inducing labor.

Bernard said his wife labored painfully from the Evening of Thursday June 17, 2015 to the afternoon of the next day when she died.

He also said while the wife was in pain, polyclinic officials sent him (Bernard) on a rat race telling him the wife was being sent to Alpha Hospital and he went there only to be told they had rather taken her to Ridge Hospital.

"I started heading for Ridge Hospital but when I got to Tetteh Quarshie Interchange I got a call from the Polyclinic to return because my wife had delivered, when I got there they told me my wife was dead," he said.

Post-mortem report from the Police Hospital showed that the woman died from ruptured uterus and breached presentation after being injected with Cytotec to force the baby to come out.

Breached presentation is when an unborn baby comes out from the mother's womb with any other part of the body other than the head, or the head and another body part.

The late Cynthia Nuworsu, a trader, died at age 38 when she went to deliver her fifth child. She left her husband, a driver, with four children to take care of.

Bernard told Adom News they did a formal church wedding six months before she died and now he has difficulties telling their last born his mother will not come back again.

Meanwhile, the Ghana Registered Nurses Association has invited Bernard for a meeting over the matter, while the Ghana Medical and Dental Council has also asked him to petition them formerly so they could take the matter up, too.

National Security is also said to have entered the fray, carrying out their own investigations for purposes not clear yet.
