Police seek AG advice in NPP Invincible Forces case

The Accra Regional Police Command says it has written to the Attorney General Department for direction on how to proceed with a case involving two members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Accra Regional Police Commander, COP Dr. George Akuffo Dampare told Joy News in an interview that the possible complainant of the case has refused to cooperate with them.

In December last year, the police arrested two members of the party’s private security referred to as Invincible Forces, after a clash between them and some other group that invaded the NPP headquarters.

They allegedly chased out journalists, some party supporters and destroyed properties at the party’s headquarters in Asylum Down, Accra.

The windscreen of a car parked outside the party building was smashed.

COP Dr. George Akuffo Dampare said the individuals involved in the violent act have been processed and “relevant statements have been taken from them.”

But according to him, all efforts of the police to get the person who was attacked and whose properties were destroyed have proven futile.

“The several occasions that we’ve gone looking for him, begging him virtually to come and support us to do this case has failed,” he indicated.

“What we have done as a result of that is to send the case docket as we have it without the cooperation of the possible complainant to the Attorney General’s office for advice so we are waiting for that advice and see the way forward,” Dr Dampare added.

The Commander stated however that the police will continue to treat criminal cease as such “irrespective of where the act is coming from.”
