Accra, Feb. 13, GNA - The Dr Mitchell Memorial Foundation (RoMMeF) will spearhead the activities marking this year's Childhood Cancer Day scheduled for February 15 on the theme: "Access to Care".

The Foundation, which seeks to strengthen the mullti-stakeholder childhood cancer platform, comprises academia, policymakers and members of the Ghanaian business community.

A statement copied to the Ghana News Agency and signed by the Executive Secretary of RoMMeF, Mr Archibald Donkor said the stakeholder community would facilitate access to quality care and help to increase the survival rates of the patients.

Childhood cancer is still a major public health issue and as part of its strategic interventions for childhood cancer, the Foundation is committed to ensuring access to quality health care, it said.

'There are situations where as a result of superstition, children with cancer are abandoned in the forest while others do not get access to proper home and health care', the statement said.

These are serious violations of child rights as enshrined in the United Nation Conventions on Rights of Children, it said.

RoMMeF wishes all Childhood Cancer Patients well and also appeal to Ghanaians to unite and show their solidarity with these vulnerable children to conquer this canker in our lifetime.
