Union of Africa Shippers Councils honours Dzifa Attivor

Accra, Feb. 12, GNA - The Union of Africa Shippers Council (UASC) has honored Madam Dzifa Attivor, former Minister of Transport, for her enormous support to Shippers in Ghana and the West and Central African Sub-Regions.

A citation which was presented to her at a dinner and awards night at the Banquet Hall in Accra, read 'Your efforts at improving the clearance processes at the ports of Ghana to the benefit of shippers in particular and the shipping industry in general cannot be allowed to pass without recognition, your tenure of office also saw a number of initiatives that transformed the transport industry leading to improvements in infrastructure at the sea and airports in Ghana'.

Addressing the gathering, Dr Kofi Mbiah, Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Shippers Authority said the objective of the Union was to strengthen the cooperation among member councils and fostering trade facilitation including intra-Africa and transit trade.

'Our 2012-2015 report indicated that the Shippers Union has seen an improvement and we have also mapped out some strategies for confronting the challenges in the coming years,' he said.

The Chief Executives of the Shippers Organisations in the Union were also recognised for their commitment to help drive the Shippers agenda forward.

Mrs Joyce Adeshetu Mogtari, Deputy Minister of Transport, as well as past officers of the Shippers Authority including; Mr Emmanuel Martey, former Deputy Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Magnus Teye Addico, former Chairman of the Governing Boards of the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority, and Kwaku Tsidi Dovlo (Rtd), former Chairman of the Board of Ghana Shippers' Authority (2009 - 2013) were also awarded.

Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority, Ghana Maritime Authority, Ghana Community Network Services Limited (GCNET), and Unilever Ghana were among companies which were honored for their contribution to the 10th General Meeting of the Shippers Union.

The Union of Africa Shippers Councils is made up of 18 member Shippers Councils in the West and Central African sub-regions and headquartered in Douala, Cameroun. It is one of the organs of the Maritime Organization for West and Central Africa (MOWCA) and also a member of the Global Shippers Forum, which is the world's leading trade association for shippers.
