Bomaa, (B/A), Feb. 11, GNA - A Police reinforcement have been deployed to Bomaa, near Duayaw-Nkwanta in the Tano North District of Brong-Ahafo Region, to halt incidences of sporadic shootings purportedly triggered by some chieftaincy issues in that town.

The farming community nearly turned bloody on Tuesday, but the timely intervention of the Police saved the situation.

Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Christopher Tawiah, the Brong-Ahafo Regional Police Public Relations Officer (PRO) told Journalists no death had been confirmed.

He said the incident happened around 1315 hours when one Nana Boafo Akoto, who claimed to be the chief of the town assembled some young men and gave them guns and cartridges to guard him to the Bomaa palace.

ASP Tawiah said the five young men fired the guns indiscriminately while they followed Nana Akoto I, to scare off community members.

Some of the community members, he said however, outsmarted them and cashed in gun-wielding men on realizing that all their cartridges had been spent and assaulted them mercilessly.

The disturbances, he said threw the town a state of confusion and the Regional Police Command had to send a reinforcement to the area.

ASP Tawiah said the Police were able to rescue the five young men, who were in critical condition but now responding to treatment at the Regional Hospital in Sunyani under Police guard.

They would be prosecuted after their discharge from the Hospital, he said, adding that clam had now returned to the town.
