An electronic game meant to inculcate in students the principles and objectives of the constitution has been launched by the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) in Koforidua the Eastern Regional Capital.

Another objective of the constitution game includes the ‘play and learn’ approach intended to encourage reading of the constitution of Ghana by the school going youths in the country.

A press statement issued by the director of communications and corporate affairs of the NCCE, expressed the belief that knowledge gained by the participants will enable them to become good citizens and ambassadors for peace in 2016 and beyond.

The statements added that the ‘play and learn’ format is meant to stimulate healthy competition among the students.

According to the statement the NCCE decided to undertake Regional level Championships of the Electronic Constitution Game in all regions of Ghana to enable as many students as possible to get to know the provisions of the constitution. The competitions which commenced on 6th February, 2016 in Koforidua in the Eastern Region is expected to end on 26th February, 2016 in the Greater Accra Region.

It is recalled that in pursuance of its mandate, the Commission instituted a manual Ghana Constitution Game which was started in 2002 in schools at the District, Regional and National levels with a manual version which was similar to monopoly game which ran for ten years.

After a review of the manual game the Commission moved over onto digital system adding that the Electronic Based competitions began successfully after a nationwide training of key field staff of the Commission. The statement added that the shift is intended to engender greater visibility and effectiveness as many can follow and play along since it appeals to both television and radio audience.

The statement ended by thanking the European Union for sponsoring the nationwide program.
