Students of Community 7, No 2 Junior High School at Tema in the Greater Accra Region, have been lamenting the lukewarm attitude of the authorities towards getting them classrooms for effective teaching and learning.

In the absence of classroom blocks, the students study under the few trees on the school compound in turns, which is not conducive for effective teaching and learning. The only block there is said to have seen no renovation for over 20 years.

With no desks to put their books on, the students put their books on their laps to write whenever they are given class work.

Information gathered indicated that some parents have started withdrawing their children from the school due to this problem, beside unavailability of science and computer lab.

Some of the children who spoke to DAILY GUIDE said that they had no other option than to study under the trees in order to pass the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) this year.

Some of the students also expressed their readiness to undertake a peaceful march to the Metropolitan Education Office in Tema to drum home their concerns.

.
They appealed to the government and other stakeholders to intervene.

Meanwhile, authorities of the school have indicated that several requests to their superiors for some additional classrooms had not yielded fruit.
