CPP I am saddened by vote-buying allegations – CPP Chairman
FEB 1, 2016 LISTEN

The National Chairman of the Convention People’s Party, Prof. Edmund Delle has expressed disappointment that some party are alleging vote buying at Saturday's congress.

Speaking on Joy FM’s Super Morning Show, Prof Delle said “I am deeply disappointed. I am so saddened [because] I didn’t expect leading members of the party to speak like that.”

Ivor Kobina Greenstreet became the party’s flagbearer after obtaining 1, 288 votes, representing 64.2% of valid votes cast during last Saturday's polls.

But his closest contender, Samia Nkrumah who polled 579 votes has accused Mr Greenstreet of vote-buying.

Although she said she has accepted the results, she insisted that delegates were paid between Gh Ȼ200 and Gh Ȼ500 to vote for Mr. Greenstreet.

Prof Delle said contrary to the claims, Ivor Greenstreet is a grassroots person and that won him the votes.

“I have emphasized that what helps the CPP is not radio statement but I say go to the people, live with them, talk to them and that has been what has made CPP great…And I think that anybody who doesn’t want to be a veranda person, CPP is not for that person,” Prof Delle stated.

He advised that the delegates of CPP be respected. Prof. Delle said, "Gone are those days when we thought that delegates were sheep and goats that you go and buy in the market, they are discerning delegates.”

He said the CPP is a family that solves its problems within and the vote-buying allegations should not have come to the public domain.

“I am pleading with the delegates not take this as an offence...They should just accept it as some of the fallouts of elections…some people are not good loser,” he added.

Prof Delle said the unfortunate comments of the former Chairperson are not in the interest of the party. He “is confident that within the next two-three of four days, the wounds will be healed.”
