Nana Damns False Report

The presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP),  Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has expressed disgust at claims that he killed his first wife, Obaa Yaa Nkansah Dwamena.

Apparatchiks of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and their rented press have been churning out the rumour.

It follows a publication by the Daily Post newspaper which sought to source the allegation of Nana Akufo-Addo killing the woman dear to his heart to a phantom 'New Patriot' newspaper.

Nana Addo has given the NDC tabloid a 24-hour ultimatum to retract and apologise for the despicably concocted story which offends the cultural values of Ghanaians about the dead.

Daily Post and the newly introduced New Patriot have often been used by the agents of the ruling NDC to run down key  members of the NPP.

In a statement issued under the hand of Nana Akufo-Addo, Press Secretary Eugene Arhin stated: “It is tragic that our politics should sink to such levels that there appears to be nothing sacred, nor any respect for our cultural values in our society.”

He wondered why “people would want to use the death of a loved one to defame a political opponent.”

An obviously bemused Akufo-Addo could therefore not fathom what level politics in the country was being reduced to.

Apart from it being defamatory, the statement said, “this story is nothing but a vile, repugnant and tasteless fabrication.”

The office of Nana Akufo-Addo has therefore demanded an unconditional and immediate retraction of the story in the next edition of the paper, which comes out on Thursday, January 28, 2015.

The caveat also came with a condition in tow: “This retraction must be given the same prominence as was given to the earlier story.”

In the absence of the retraction and apology, DAILY GUIDE has picked up signals that Nana Addo has instructed his lawyers to sue the paper for defamation with claims running into several millions of Ghana cedis.

Information gathered by the paper indicated that going into the 2016 general elections, most of these pro-government newspapers, which former Attorney General and Minister of Justice Martin A.B.K. Amidu described as 'rented press', are planning to churn out such untruths to spite leaders of the various opposition parties, especially the NPP, and divert their attention.

But the National Youth Organiser of the NPP, Sammy Awuku, has already served notice that they would not sit down for their flagbearer or any leader of the party to be used as a punching bag, especially by the NDC.
