Controversy rages over a 5,000 Ghana cedi donation purported to have been made by head porters, popularly known as ’’kayaye’’ to the NPP, at a fundraising rally in Kumasi at the week-end.

Some observers are questioning the capacity of a vulnerable group such as ‘kayayes’, led by serial caller, one Adiza Zongo Pioneer, to raise such an amount for the cause of a political party.

There is even suggestions party officials paid the money and used the head porters as cover-up for propaganda purposes.

But Ashanti Regional Treasurer of the NPP, Zeinab Sallow, however, says political opponents are rather engaged in propaganda with such theories.

She says the party is investigating the source of social media message making the rounds on the matter for possible legal action.

Hajia Sallow spoke with Luv FM’s David Akuetteh on Burning Issues, local segment of the Super Morning Show Monday.

“It’s never true; it’s just propaganda, and I pray and I hope I talk to Ghanaians that they should take it as mere propaganda from our opponents’. Hajia Sallow insisted.

Meanwhile, Nhyira FM has been speaking with some’’ kayayes’’ at Adum on whether they contributed money towards the NPP cause.

Only one out of seven we spoke with admitted she paid one Ghana cedi.

One of them told Akosua Addai Osei Tutu “some people came round to collect money but we at this section did not pay’’.

Another said “I heard on radio they collected money from us to donate to the NPP but I didn’t pay anything’’.

Yet another said she was unaware money was collected.

“I don’t know of any contributions; the work we do, we earn very little so what is there to contribute? A Kayeye quizzed.

Only one appeared to have an idea what the issue was all about.

“We were in the market when they came, I paid one cedi’’. One of them confirmed.
