New Ya Na In February

General News New Ya Na In February
DEC 9, 2015 LISTEN

Reports reaching DAILY GUIDE indicate that a substantive overlord of Dagbon (Ya Na) will be enskinned by the close of February 2016, barring any last-minute changes in the final decision reached at the Manhyia palace in Kumasi, the Ashanti Regional capital, by the eminent chiefs mediating in the Dagbon chieftaincy dispute.

Deep-throat sources revealed that the three eminent chiefs, led by Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II; the overlord of Mamprugu Traditional Area, Nayiri Naa-Bahigu Mahami Abdulai Sheriga and the overlord of Gonjaland, Yagbon-Wura Tuntumba Boresa II, at the last sitting agreed that a contractor should immediately go to the Gbewaa palace to renovate the place ahead of the final funeral rites of the two chiefs.

Per the arrangements, the Kuganaa, who is the traditional father of both the Abudus and the Andanis, after maintenance work at the palace, will be expected to perform some rituals at sacred places therein as demanded by custom to kick-start the performance of the funerals.

Credible sources indicate that soon after the Damba celebrations slated for December 28, 2015, the Abudus as agreed will take occupation of the Gbewaa palace to perform the final funeral rites of Naa Mahamadu Abdulai between January 8 and 15, 2016.

A week later, it will be the turn of the Andanis who will also be expected to start the funeral of Naa Abdulai Yakubu Andani II between January 22 and 29, 2016.

All the two gates, after taking turns to celebrate the funerals of the two chiefs, are required to stay in Yendi and allow the processes of selecting and enskinning a substantive Ya Na to pave way for lasting peace in the area after a protracted chieftaincy feud.

Meanwhile, DAILY GUIDE sources reveal that the eminent chiefs and representatives of the two gates will between 17th and 18th December, 2015 officially communicate the latest roadmap to President John Dramani Mahama at the Flagstaff House in Accra.

The mediation between the two factions stalled after one party pulled out accusing the leadership of bias in handling the matter.

Government, after some interventions, asked the Committee of Eminent Chiefs (CEC) to reconvene and deal with the remaining traditional aspects of the chieftaincy problem in order to ensure lasting solution.

Since the carnage in Yendi in 2002, which resulted in the murder of the overlord of Dagbon, Ya-Na Yakubu Andani II and 40 others, the CEC has been mediating in the conflict to restore peace.

The two Gates of Dagbon, Abudu and Andani, have been at each other’s throat since 2002 following the murder of the late Dagbon overlord.

When reached for his comments, the Northern Regional Minister and Chairman of the Regional Security Committee (REGSEC), Alhaji Mohammed Muniru-Limuna, admitted he was part of the last meeting but said he was not its spokesperson and so could not speak on the issue.

According to him, certain decisions were arrived at and would be made public if the matter was officially communicated to the president on a date he refused to divulge.
