Power Queens, the ladies association of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), has donated an amount of GH¢ 15,000 to the National Cardiothoracic Centre at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital.

The amount is to help the centre support patients who are unable to afford their medical treatment at the centre.

It will also help the centre defray some of the debt incurred from treating patients under emergency circumstances.

Queen Rosemond Asamoah Frimpong, national president of Power Queens, presenting the amount to Dr Ekow Entsua Mensah, cardiothoracic surgeon who represented the director of centre, said the donation which was made possible with the help ECG management formed part of activities to mark the association's annual week celebration.

She said the association over the years has supported various health institutions in the country, with the cardio centre being this year's beneficiary.

Queen Frimpong further mentioned that the association had donated 150 pints of blood to the National Blood Centre, Accra region, as well as organised other activities in the various regions.

She said the association is aware of the power challenges that are going on in the country, adding that they will do their part of the business to ensure electricity is made available when it comes.

'We want to assure our valued customers that they need to support us by paying their bills on time,' she said.

Dr Entsua Mensah, receiving the money, said the donation was very timely as a large number of people need support in the treatment of their cardiovascular diseases.
