Friends of Wumenu Community Farm (FWCF), a Scotland UK based non-governmental organization (NGO) has donated to the Wumenu D/A Basic School items value at sixteen thousand, three hundred and forty-six cedis, and eight – six pesewas (Ghc 16,346.86)

The donation is made up of over 5,581 selected books, of different levels and subject, and for teachers and learners. Basic 1 to 9 levels also received 200 chair and 44 tables that can seat two pupils each. The nursery received 12 tables that can seat 4 to 5 children each and 73 chairs for the comfort of the children for teaching and learning.

Mr. Sam Afful-Logotse, the Chief Executive of the Friends of Wumenu Community Farm, donating the items said, the donation was to dignify the pupils and their teachers in this era of child right. He said the children were expected to the saved from the daily trauma of carrying tables and chairs to and from school. Mr. Afful-Logotse, said the 21st Century teacher requires extra new skills to march the speed of the children they teach, consequently parents and guardians should support the effort of the teachers to provide the guidance the children require to rule their world.

Mr. Collins Kofi Awuku, The country director of the FWCF, in a brief interview with the media, said, it is the hope of the NGO that, teachers will allow the children to use the books effectively for not only learning how to read and write but also reading the book to learn new concept and develop their creative ability.

Mr. Kwame Ahiabley, the chairman of the Parents Teachers Association (P.T.A) who received the items on behalf of the school acknowledged the receipt of items from Friends of Wumemu Community Farm and promised to use the books for the intended purposes, and called on other philanthropists and NGO to assist the school.

Mr.S.K Kudu, the Headmaster of the school said, Wumenu D/A Basic School since its establishment in the year 1960,has not received any major infrastructural development. He said over the years, the school has struggled to meet its quality educational goal and objective to which the school was established.

Mr. Kudu used the occasion to mention some major achievement, which were improvement in pupils performance; about 80% of final year students qualified for placement in SHS across the country, cultivating reading habit in pupils by way of quiz competition, better performance in co-curricular activities like sports and culture.

“All these were not achieved on a silver platter as we have to struggle our way through a number of challenges that confronted us. Some challenges that confront us are: lack of frames for the classroom windows and doors, encroachment on school land, lack of drums for culture troupe, lack of sports materials like; ball and volley ball net among others. We therefore call on all philanthropist and well-meaning citizens to come to our aid to alleviate some of these challenges for the betterment of the school”. He added
