Koforidua, Nov. 30, GNA - Twenty pupils selected from public basic schools in Koforidua have been trained in Computer Programming and Software applications, to improve their understanding of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) studies.

E-syllabus for Africa, an Educational NGO, organised the training in conjunction with the New Juaben Municipal Education Directorate and the Ghana Library Board.

The five-day training session also trained 10 ICT teachers from the beneficiary schools under the pilot project to enable them to guide the beneficiaries in applying the knowledge in their daily studies.

E-Syllabus for Africa is an educational Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO), focused in ICT training for public schools, to bridge the gap in computer knowledge among children in the sub region, through varied training programmes.

Mr Quarme Zowonu, the Director of E-Syllabus West Africa, said the training was the first of its kind in Ghana and the focus was on public schools.

He explained that software writing or coding was a high Intelligent Quota (IQ) programme in ICT studies, and "if taken seriously the beneficiaries could generate income from it to reduce unemployment."

Mr Zowonu, therefore, urged the children to continue practicing at the library to improve their skills.

'I will also urge parents to encourage their wards to be practicing rather than playing games on mobile phones and also monitor how their wards use the computers,' he added.

Mr Eugene Amoah, the Municipal ICT coordinator, thanked E-Syllabus for the gesture and gave the assurance that they would continue to guide the beneficiaries to realise the objective and aims of the programme.

E-Syllabus for Africa later donated library software to the Municipal Library to capture data on all books in the library as part of the training programme.
