Drivers Demonstrate Over Bad Roads In Tarkwa

Over seven hundred concerned Taxi drivers in Tarkwa have embarked on a massive demonstration over deplorable nature of roads in the Tarkwa Nsuaem Municipality.

The demonstration which began 5:30 am saw market women, bankers and other individuals move out from their work places to catch a glimpse of the demonstration

The angry demonstrators, clad in red attire, arm bands, were brandish placards some of which reads ‘’MCE do something before you die”, “we need good roads”, the MCE is incompetence”, and only in Tarkwa you will see big pothole” and others.

According to the leader of Concern Taxi Drivers in Tarkwa, Samuel Akwasi Mensah in an interview with modern Ghana said, they are only given the assembly twenty one days ultimatum to do something about the bad road else they will embark on one week demonstration in Tarkwa.

He said the bad nature of roads in Tarkwa has led to the collapse of their business and lost of jobs.

Samuel Akwasi Mensah further disclosed that, the deplorable nature of roads in Tarkwa has also affected their health’s conditions.

He said even though 4.2 billion has been capture in the assembly’s 2016 budget plan to patch on potholes in Tarkwa, they don’t want patching of potholes but rather new good road that will last long.

Meanwhile the Urban Roads Engineer for Tarkwa Nsuaem Mr. Derrick Obeng who received the drivers petitions on behalf of MCE Madam Christina Cobbinah said the government has given approval to construct artifact overlay and sooner than later the construction of roads in Tarkwa will begin.
