The Northern Regional Secretariat of the NPP is alarmed at the level of violence that had characterized the just ended parliamentary primaries of the National Democratic Congress in the region.

Speaking to DAILY GUIDE, the regional secretary of the NPP, Mr. Sule Salifu said violent attacks such as snatching of ballot boxes, destruction of electoral materials and attacks on electoral officers are all alien to the doctrines of politics in a religious region like the Northern Region and the most alarming is the attack on armed security officers tasked to maintain law and order at the various polling stations.

According to Sule Salifu as far as the NPP is concerned, 'we have observed that the incompetence of the president has been exported into the region, hence the legalization of violence and we view all these actions of the NDC as a wakeup call to the security agencies in the region.'

The NPP as the most organized political party in the region, is at crossroads as to whether to congratulate the NDC or not because the party claimed the NDC's violent-infested internal parliamentary elections cannot described as successful.

The party's step by step analysis of all the candidates elected by the NDC, according to Sule, has further enhanced the chances of the NPP in the region to win more than 17 parliamentary seats as planned.

'We are further disturbed by the financial support and heavy interferences that came from the flagstaff house to aid aspirants perceived to be loyalists of president Mahama as against other aspirants, this development has further stirred up anger and rancor amongst NDC supporters in the region,' Sule noted.

The NPP Northern Regional Secretariat appealed to the security agencies to sit up and ensure that their duties are properly discharged considering the lessons learnt in the just ended NDC parliamentary primaries.
