The Traitor within

The Traitor within
29.11.2015 LISTEN

“If a change is too long delayed, violence erupts here and thereafter. Not that man wills it. But the past accumulated grievances erupt with a volcanic fury”.

I strongly believe that when Dr. Kwame Nkrumah made the above deduction nearly sixty or so decade ago, he had a personality like Paul Afoko, suspended National Party of the New Patriotic Party in mind.

What is the grasshopper doing at a meeting of animal, if I may ask? Paul Afoko, by his deeds and utterances has revealed his true colours He does not possess a single trait of the elephants in his blood, not to talk of his soul and body. He has the voice of Jacob but the skin of a sheep. The saying that “it is only a weak man whose wife finds pleasure in another woman’s husband” aptly fits him Paul Afoko is the impotent man and the wife is the grass root supporters of the party.

Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo is not and cannot be the problem: Our Flag-bearer who happens to be the gold fish in Ghanaian politics has worked successfully and peacefully with Mac Manu and Nana Ohene Ntow. Again, he worked closely with Jake Otanka Obetsebi Lamptey and Elvis Owusu Afriyie aka “Sir John”. There was no problem. Next come in Paul Afoko and Kwabena Agyapong and all hell is let loose. Nothing seems to work any longer. These two decided to operate at a different level from other party structures.

Today, my grouse is on embattled and suspended National Chairman of NPP, Mr. Paul Afoko, alias “Mekyekoso”. I will leave Mr. Kwabena Agyapong for now.

Yes, Paul Afoko is the grasshopper who attends a meeting of animals. He is the butterfly who calls himself a bird. He is the bane of the NPP and the Lucifer of our time. He wants to decimate the party. Unfortunately, he has acolytes who dance to his tune. He does not have a single NPP credential in him. In short, he is a phantom masquerading as a dye in the wool member of the New Patriotic Party. Isn’t it time he shed the NPP toga so that his true identity could be revealed. A traitor within is more dangerous than one avowed enemy.

Over the last few weeks or so, I have been finding it extremely difficult to keep myself in check not to speak about the Paul Afoko saga. I have received numerous calls from concerned party men and women to hold fire on the issue.

Last night, my conscience spoke to me to do the proper thing. Today, I am coming out of my shell to tell Mr. Paul Afoko, alias “Mekyekoso” aka “Nana Addo beye President over my dead body”, suspended National Chairman of NPP that his continuous clinging on to the chairmanship position of the NPP will not bring about any positive result to the party. It will surely send us to Golgotha and Armageddon. We the party faithful will never allow the action of a stiff-necked disgruntled and one who is on his way to political oblivion to plunge us headlong into the ocean of nothing and helplessness.

This much we pledge.
The masses in the party have spoken through the party Disciplinary Committee and the Council of Elders, and there is nothing Paul Afoko, “Mr. Destroyer” can do about it. He is a “General” without an army. We will not sit down and allow this “infidel” to bring down the house we have all toiled to build.

If you are a leader and your followers tell you to the face that they don’t need you any longer, what do you do? You leave the scène quietly! Is he going to force us to accept his inept leadership style? Will his incompetence and arrogance inure to our benefit? As Abdul Malik Kwaku Baako rightly puts it, “let him (Afoko) call a meeting of any of the organs of the party and see how many members will attend” A leader who has lost touch with the grassroots and cannot go to Party Headquarters is not what the NPP needs in its forward march to victory.

The sins of Paul Afoko are too numerous to recount. He is despicable and like I said some time ago about a man who calls himself Odikro Akyea Mensah, home will be hell for his wife and children. Does he even have any sense of humour? I bet, should you go to his house, you will find the TV Set under lock and key and the key taken away by him. I bet his household will be bereft of any good idea and the wife and children will perpetually be in bondage to him. I don’t foresee the possibility of Pau Afoko allowing his wife and children to voice out their opinions on matters that affect them. Like what I said about the Odikro Akyea Mensah, this Afoko man, because of his dangerous mind set and uncivilized mien, has resulted in his kingdom shrinking into a hamlet without subjects.

A chairman who goes to his party’s headquarters with armed body guards who look like Lucifer’s henchmen escorting condemned men and women to the gate of hell is not what the New Patriotic Party and Ghana need today!

The arrogance and impunity of Paul Afoko was brought to the fore when he commandeered in a Rambo manner the office of the Presidential Candidate at the Party’s National Headquarters and converted it into an office for his own use. This was all in an attempt to denigrate the office and person of our Presidential Candidate and the Golden Fish in the political arena, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo. But one thing he has forgotten is that the masses are with our Flag bearer because unlike he, Paul Afoko, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo resonates very well with the grassroots.

Who can beat Nana Akufo Addo’s impeccable credentials? Not even President John Dramani Mahama, the danger boy who is riding a bicycle without brakes!

A National Chairman of a political Party who storms out of a party’s meeting (with the Flag bearer in attendance) when a participant expresses a different opinion from his does not deserve to remain in his position a minute longer.

A National Chairman of a Political Party whose brother is arrested by the Police for “allegedly” dousing a Regional Chairman of the same party who had a week or so earlier had altercations with the National Chairman does not deserve to remain in office a minute longer. If Paul Afoko has any iota of conscience in him, he ought to have resigned to enable the Police conclude their investigations into the matter. The Regional Chairman died and Paul Afoko had the temerity and the effrontery to claim his brother’s innocence in that dastardly act.

Even though the Law Courts have not pronounced judgment on the matter, his travails is an indication that judgment day has caught up with Paul Afoko earlier than he envisaged. This is just the beginning.

A National Chairman of a Political Party who calls a Press Conference with his General Secretary to denigrate other members of the National Executive Committee including the Flag bearer has lost the moral right to cling on to the party’s top position. Afoko was the salt that has lost its taste and so is no longer relevant in modern day politics.

And what was Andrews Awuni saying about our Flag bearer? You see, I have been taught to put up my best face forward in public. But if I don’t see the faces or likes of people like Andrew Awuni I would not have missed anything of value. What did he hope to gain by his attack on Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo? Rather than blame Nana for the fate that has befallen his disgraced anti hero, he should rather blame himself for not calling the Afoko of a man to order when he started behaving like a demented bull dog. What has Nana done wrong? S

Paul Afoko thought he is bigger than the party instigated an obscure party member (whose membership of the party cannot be ascertained) to pursue his (Paul Afoko’s) inordinate ambition of thwarting Nana Akufo Addo’s chances in the 2016 Presidential Elections. In the end, he fell.

And what a big fall it was!! Yes, Paul Afoko, the infidel is finished. The New Patriotic Party can now heave a sigh of relief. His actions have made him despicable and an alien in a party he had wanted to destroy. Yes, this is what happens to traitors who attempt to bite the fingers that feed them. In the midst of an avowed enemy what do you do? You don’t sleep at all. But should there be the need to do so, you sleep with at least one of the eyes closed.

Yes, Paul Afoko has fallen headlong into the abyss, to rise no more.

Members of the Graet Osono Fraternity should take solace in the words of the National Leader of the All Progressives Congress, Asiwaju Ahmed Bola Tinubu; “After darkness, a glorious dawn beckons for Nigeria” (the NPP and Ghana).
