The National Council of Tertiary Education says students of Mampong Technical College of Education who failed their exams will be repeated instead.

The Executive Secretary of the National Council of Tertiary Education, tells Joy News that this provision is made across tertiary institutions in the country.

“In view of the confusion that has risen out of the decision to dismiss the students, the University of Cape Coast (UCC) is trying to meet them and give them the opportunity to repeat the year if they want to,” Professor Mohammed Salifu stated.

More than 200 students failed Elective Mathematics examination at the Mampong Technical College of Education in the Ashanti Region faced withdrawal.

An earlier attempt by the school to dismiss these students led to violent protests last week in the school.

Some of them threw stones at school facilities, destroying 19 Louvre blades.

School authorities picked up intelligence, the angry students were planning to set the school buses on fire.

One student was arrested, Ashanti regional correspondent Erastus Asare Donkor told Joy News.

The authorities were forced to close down the school on November 23, 2015. To save the situation, the NCTE decided make a concession.

Professor Salifu told Joy News some of the students have welcomed the decision by the UCC, regulator of the school's examinations to repeat them.

“Several of them have accepted the offer because they knew that was the rule, going into the exam”, he added.
