The Speaker of Parliament Edward Doe Adjaho has broken his silence after a lobbying group impressed on President John Mahama to appoint him as his running mate in the 2016 elections.

The Volta Youth for Development in a strongly-worded media statement said current vice president Kwesi Amissah-Arthur is “incompetent”.

However, the former MP for Akatsi South in the Volta region has distanced himself from the campaign, asking The Herald newspaper: “Do you change a winning team?”

Speaking with the newspaper from London, Adjaho opined he believes in the Mahama – Amissah-Arthur ticket to win the 2016 general elections, stressing “Vice-President Kwesi Amissah-Arthur and several of his associates are aware of my stance.”

He described the group’s motive as “sinister”, adding it should desist from using his name in their “narrow-minded” political quest.

“I won’t compete with my former lecturer for any position including the position of the Vice-President of Ghana.”

According to him, he has known and kept a “longstanding relationship with the Vice-President spanning over 30 years.”

The Speaker of Parliament is currently in London with the Majority Leader Alban Bagbin, Minority Leader Osei-Kyei Mensah-Bonsu, Majority Chief Whip Alhaji Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak, Minority Chief Whip Dan Kweku Botwe, the Clerk of Parliament, Emmanuel Anyimadu and several other staff of Parliament.

They are there on the invitation of the British Parliament through Westminster Foundation for Democracy. They have had meetings with both houses of Parliament; The House of Commons and The House of Lords.
