Social services committee chairman of Fanteakwa District of the Eastern region, Hon. Rev. George Opoku Acheampong has expressed worry at the way refreshment increases the cost of funeral activities in our communities.

He has however appealed to Okyehene, Osagyefo Amoatia Ofori Panin as well as other chiefs across the country to ban refreshment during funerals.

According to him, most families spends a lot of money on food and drinks which later brings debt which sometimes even causes divisions among family members.

Rev. Acheampong said this in connection with a funeral activity of which more than 5,000 cedis was used to serve sympathisers, leading to confusion among family members.

"Funerals are sad moments and i wonder why it should be turned into eating and drinking which in rerurn increases the cost of the funeral" he added.

He commended Muslims on the way they organise funeral activities and urge the public to emulate it since it does not require a lot.

"We must copy our muslims brothers on the way they organises their funerals to reduce the cost since those monies can be used to support the needy in the family" he said.
